Bottom and strayline fishing for snapper, terakehi, kawhai, harpuka
(groper) and the mighty yellowtail kingfish which can attain weights
in excess of 100 Lb. and takes off like an express train. Black,
blue and striped marlin are very common in this area as well as
albacore, yellowtail, skipjack tuna and mahimahi.
From December to May, as water temperatures rise, the Waihau Bay
Fishing Club is Host to several game fishing tournaments. The club
provides weigh-in facilities and a wide three boat ramp.
